Short answer: Claude is very good at sales research, call prep and first drafts, but out of the box it does not know who your company knows. It can read the web and whatever you paste in. It cannot see that your board member sat on a board with the CFO you are chasing. You fix that by connecting a relationship graph to Claude over MCP (Model Context Protocol), so the assistant can answer "who can introduce us" with named paths and evidence. Boomerang AI's MCP server does this from the Team plan up.
What can Claude do for a sales team today?
- Account research. Claude alone: Strong: news, filings, product, hiring. Claude plus relationship context: Adds who on your side knows people there
- Call prep. Claude alone: Strong: likely priorities and questions. Claude plus relationship context: Adds which attendees your team already knows, and how
- Outreach drafts. Claude alone: Good first drafts, all cold. Claude plus relationship context: Drafts the intro ask for the person who knows the buyer
- Pipeline review. Claude alone: Summarises what you paste in. Claude plus relationship context: Flags deals with no senior contact and the warm path that fixes it
- Multithreading. Claude alone: Suggests roles to reach. Claude plus relationship context: Names the connector for each missing role
Search interest reflects the shift: in Google Keyword Planner, US searches for "claude for sales" were up roughly tenfold year on year as of October 2026.
Why does an AI assistant need relationship context?
Because the most valuable sales fact is not on the internet. Exa's CRO Marcus Holm described his reps on the GTMnow podcast using AI tools to get a fast point of view on an account and its history. The missing piece in that picture is the one he also says wins deals: working the common connections across "your team, investor teams" to reach the VP or CTO.
LinkedIn's 2026 Trust Advantage research backs the point: shared mutual connections are among the signals most predictive of a positive reply, and sellers who exceeded quota generate 20% more meetings from warm introductions. An assistant that cannot see relationships will keep recommending cold outreach.
How do you connect Claude to your relationship graph?
- In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, and add a custom connector.
- Name it Boomerang and paste the server URL https://mcp.getboomerang.ai.
- Click Connect and sign in with your Boomerang account. It uses OAuth, so there is no API key.
- Enable it in a conversation and name the account you care about.
On Claude Team and Enterprise an Owner adds the connector once for the organization. The same server works in ChatGPT through developer mode and in Claude Code with one command. Full steps are on the Boomerang MCP page.
Which prompts work best?
- Access: "Using Boomerang, show me every warm path into [company], ranked by strength, with who on our side should make the ask."
- Above the champion: "At [account] I work with a [title]. Find warm paths to people more senior, VP and above." This is the multithreading question most deals never ask.
- Forecast: "Flag commit deals where the most senior person engaged is below VP, and find a path to an executive for each."
- Signals: "Here are this week's accounts with buying signals. Which can we reach warm, and through whom?"
- Draft: "Write the ask to the best connector and a forwardable blurb, both under 120 words."
Is it safe to give Claude access to relationship data?
It should be read only and scoped to your permissions. Boomerang AI's MCP access is read only, bounded to your workspace and to your role, and uses OAuth. The assistant can draft an ask, but Rudy never emails or messages anyone on anyone's behalf. The connector decides and sends from their own account.
Which tools offer relationship data over MCP?
Several do, and they answer different questions. The Swarm and Connect the Dots expose their relationship graphs over MCP, and Affinity includes a hosted MCP server from its Scale plan. Boomerang AI's server is built around getting the introduction made: ranked paths, the recommended sender, connector comparison and coverage gaps. It is included on the Team, Company and Enterprise plans (pricing). For GTM engineers running lookups across whole account lists, see the GTM engineer playbook.
Frequently asked questions
Can Claude be used for sales?
Yes. Teams use Claude for account research, call prep, outreach drafts, pipeline summaries and objection handling. Its main gap is private context: it cannot see your CRM, calendars or who your company knows unless you connect those sources, usually through MCP connectors.
What is MCP in sales tools?
MCP, or Model Context Protocol, is an open standard that lets assistants like Claude and ChatGPT call external tools and data. A sales tool with an MCP server lets the assistant ask it questions directly, such as who can introduce you to a buyer, and answer with live data.
How do I find warm intros from Claude?
Connect a relationship graph to Claude over MCP, then ask for warm paths into a named company. With Boomerang AI you add https://mcp.getboomerang.ai as a custom connector, sign in with OAuth, and ask Claude to rank paths and recommend who on your side should make the ask.
Does the Boomerang MCP server send emails?
No. Access through the assistant is read only and scoped to your role and workspace. Claude can draft the introduction request and a forwardable blurb, but the connector decides whether to make the introduction and sends it from their own account.
